Stolen of a radioactive source

Event Location: Iran, Islamic Republic of, Tabriz, Tabriz University INES Rating: 2 (Provisional)

According to the report of Tabriz University Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), a Pu-Be Neutron source was stolen from storage location. National Radiation Protection Department (NRPD) immediately involved in the subject and informed responsible organizations in National and Provincial levels. The source was registered with the activity of 130 GBq (3.5 Ci).
Results of first inspection and other evidences showed that the source was taken out of its shielding. The investigation have not reached to any finding yet. This event is under investigation by National and provincial responsible organizations and is followed by NRPD.
The event is provisionally rated at level-2 on INES.
