Exposure of workers in excess of statutory annual dose limits

On November 23, 2021 two workers were carrying out a pipe inspection using a portable X-ray generator. While trying to start up the X-ray generator after adjusting some parameters, the workers realized that the device was already on. The workers could not remember exactly when the X-ray generator had been started and they had early on been in its vicinity. Furthermore none of the two workers was wearing a dosimeter while being the vicinity of the X-ray generator.

According to a dose reconstruction of the incident the workers may have received an effective dose of 44 mSv, twice the annual limit of 20 mSv.
